Getting Hitched Fiction -  Submission Guidelines

In 2009, short fiction will be featured on the website, No School Today. We will post further details here and on No School Today in January/February.

Requirements & Payment

Stories must be your own original work and be unpublished.

Submissions: Please submit by email to
editor [at] gettinghitched.com.au  Successful authors will be required to sign an agreement confirming that they own copyright of the work and are assigning electronic rights to us.

On your submission, please make the subject of the email "Submission for Month Year" eg "Submission for June 2008" if your story is on the Expectations theme.

Please also include a contact phone number or postal address.

Length & Payment:
Length can be anything from 200 to 2000 words - whatever tells the story best. Payment is a flat fee of AU$45 (+GST for registered authors) regardless of length for assignment of exclusive rights to publish on the Internet.

Accepted authors will be required to supply an invoice. Professional authors will need to include their ABN on their invoice. If you need to register for an ABN you can do so online at the Australian Business Register. For accepted authors who have written their story as a hobby, we require a Statement by a Supplier form from the Australian Taxation Office.

Copyright: You retain copyright in your work. We only require rights for Internet publishing.

Editing: We may do some minor editing (eg spelling) - more significant editing will be done in consultation with the author.

Promotion of your work:
GettingHitched.com.au is a website for the general public, not just writers. That means your work will be exposed to a much wider audience than most short story websites. Short teasers for each month's stories will appear in our newsletters and on some other sites in our network to attract readers.
