Weddings - The Beach Wedding Theme

A beach wedding is a popular choice for surfing couples, those eloping, and those who think the beach would make a beautiful backdrop. But there are some considerations to take into account when planning.

  • Will it be an actual wedding on the beach or a wedding with the beach in the background? This will affect the number of guests you can invite and how much sand will get in everything.

  • Sand and surf are probabilities (depending on proximity), sun is something you hope for, and rain is something you could get. What would be your contingency plan if the weather doesn't behave?

  • Because of the location, it's a given that it will be less formal than many other wedding locations, but that doesn't mean that you can't still have a classically refined wedding if you wish.

Beach Wedding Suggestions

  • Attire - Summer dresses, casual suits, flowing formal dresses, hand fans, parasols, pearls, silver or white gold jewellery, floral hairpieces.

  • Colours - Yellows and blues tie in with the sand, sun, and surf. Whites, creams, and silvers contrast well with the seaside environment.

  • Decorations - Baskets, pails, shells, parasols, and any other beach, summer, surfing, boating, or ocean motifs.

  • Favours - Placecard holders and candles in the form of beach symbols - shells, deck chairs, and boats - can also serve as favours. Sea patterns or colours can be used on bomboniere boxes and/or their ribbons.
  • Flowers - Bright flowers like frangipanis, hibiscus, and gerberas, or classic flowers like lilies and orchids.

  • Wedding gifts - If they're a surfing couple, gifts that appeal to their love of the seaside and its vibe work well. Couples who enjoy the beach for mostly aesthetic reasons would be inclined to like more traditional gifts.
