Weddings - Wedding Ceremony Ideas

Where you choose to have your wedding will depend on a variety of things – how big your wedding will be, whether any of your family are religious, your personal tastes, and your budget. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Beach weddings – Again, the weather can be a problem. Rain, wind, and cyclones can all stop a beach wedding from going ahead. If the weather is fine though and if the two of you have a special affinity with the beach, it can be a beautiful day. The number of guests you can invite will be much lower than in other locations and if you have your wedding on the actual beach you'll have to keep in mind the issue of sand getting in everything. • Isolated weddings – Large guest lists are not appealing to everyone, but sometimes it can be very hard to not invite everyone. A good way of getting around having to say no to the majority of your would-be guests is to have a wedding away from where you live. It can provide an interesting talking point for all those people who you can’t invite, but it can also be fairly costly to organise, particularly if there are guests you want to attend – for instance parents, siblings, and close friends. Remember, you all have to get there somehow. For more see our Overseas Weddings Theme

  • Unusual weddings – It doesn’t all have to be white dresses and aisles. It can be white dresses and extreme activities! Or even just the extreme activities! When it comes to weddings that are different from the norm, the only limit is your imagination. For the adventurous or those who don’t want to take it all too seriously, there are always the more unusual wedding options. You could jump out of a plane or say your vows under water. If you’re into kitsch, you’d probably love a wedding in Las Vegas with your very own Elvis impersonator. The only thing other thing you have to worry about potential backlash from some of your family or friends – but if it’s that big a concern you could always have a traditional wedding first and then renew your vows down the track in whatever way you like. • Church weddings – Many people who marry in churches often do so for their own religious reasons, but some non-religious people may marry in churches because their relatives are very religious or because they admire the aesthetics of churches and want to marry in that kind of environment.
  • You'll have to think about whether you feel comfortable getting married in a church if you aren't religious and also evaluate the wishes of your family.

  • Garden weddings – This option gives you the opportunity to marry in beautiful surrounds - whether it be a friend's backyard or a public park. Weather is obviously an issue – do you have a contingency plan if it rains? If it's in a public place, how would you feel about random people intervening? Do you want your wedding to be watched, or even joined, by strangers?
