Weddings - Tips for Saving Money on Wedding Rings
If you're working within a tight budget and don't have
upwards of
$2,000 to spend on one ring, here are a few tips on how to save money when it comes to your
wedding rings.
- Go for personal preferences. Instead of heading
straight to the wedding rings - where everything is
automatically more expensive simply by including the 'w' word - use
your favourite metal or stone as a starting point and search for
rings that feature those attributes. By doing this, the chances of
you finding a ring that you love for a reasonable price actually
increase because you'll be looking at rings you love and not rings
you think you should love.
- Choose alternatives. Instead of gold, consider silver,
tungsten, or titanium rings. These can be cheaper alternatives
and, depending on the quality of the metal, can be comparable to
gold in terms of long-term wear and tear.
- Focus. If you don't want to spend a heap of
money on your wedding, it helps to focus your attention - and your
budget - on a small number of things rather than on having the full
gamut of wedding items. If you're not that into bombonierre and seat
covers, that's money you could spend instead on your wedding rings. Choose things that
are most important to you and excise everything else.
- Simplify. Think about whether you want
to buy both the engagement and wedding rings. Many couples save
money by buying simple engagement rings, by forgoing the engagement
rings, or by using the engagement rings as their wedding rings.
Generally you can also save money by choosing a simpler design -
such as a
band with no stones or by having small stones instead of one large one - but it also depends on
the type of metal you choose.
- Fake it. Most of the time, it's other people
who are concerned about whether your diamonds are real. But if for
you it's a non-issue, you might consider going down
the 'what they don't know won't hurt them' route. Don't, however, go
down that road with your partner.
